RUSALKA – OPERA FOR ALL
Lyrical fairy tale by Antonín Dvořák as a pocket opera in a musical chamber version by Dietrich Zöllner

Over 40 concepts were submitted to a directing competition organized by the Landesbühnen Sachsen. The choice fell on the staging idea of Jeffrey Döring and Hannah Ebenau and their travel pocket version of the atmospheric Czech national opera. In the production, the role of Rusalka is cast by two actresses, a singer and also a deaf actress: We experience the story from her point of view, which she tells us in retrospect – supported by sign language. Although overprotected by her parents Ježibaba and Wassermann, the mermaid Rusalka managed to free herself from the world of her childhood. Speechless, but like in the fairy tale opera, she remains a stranger to her prince. When the prince leaves her, disaster takes its course because the parents want revenge to win their daughter back.
