On a tour of the current exhibition “Picture Stories” we discover portraits of Jewish people from Munich from the 19th and early 20th centuries and ask: Who had their portrait painted by whom? How did they want to be seen? Who did they want to portray?

The portraits shed light on well-known and forgotten Munich biographies and provide insights into the society in which they were created. The focus is on the diversity of Jewish identities and their visibility from the time of emancipation to the Shoah.

At the end of the tour, you are invited to become part of the exhibition in our pop-up gallery. The tour will be led by curator Lara Theobalt.
